A string of high-profile catastrophes which have happened on Cressida Dick's watch means she must resign, argues Patrick Christys

Cressida Dick, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, absolutely, unequivocally has to resign. No ifs, no buts, no maybes.

And if she doesn’t resign, she has to be sacked. It’s emerged that she basically had to be forced into apologising to the family of Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman after two serving Met police officers took disgusting pictures alongside their bodies.

But this is just the latest in a long of list of utter catastrophes that Cressida Dick has presided over.

In June, Dick, the Metropolitan police commissioner, was heavily criticised by the government-appointed panel investigating the 1987 murder of Daniel Morgan, a private detective whose killers were shielded by police corruption. The panel made a series of bombshell findings, including that the Met was institutionally corrupt.

No formal inquiry has taken place into that. Then we’ve got Wayne Couzens – the vile murderous rapist who brutally killed Sarah Everard. This whole incident highlighted a culture of mysoginy and sexism within the Met Police. And now, she can’t trust the police she is in charge of to the extent that any undercover officer now has to video call another officer if they stop someone on the street. I mean, what does that say?

There are discrepancies about the exact nature of how the police handled the vigil for Sarah Everard, I’ve got my views on it, but regardless, a situation was allowed to occur that meant it looked like police were trampling all over women at the vigil. Not a good look. In the last few days alone a serving Met police officer has been charged with rape, another met police officer secretly filmed dozens of women, a met police officer has been charged with child sex offences… I could go on…

In her first six months as commissioner there were five terror attacks, and 32 people died. There is an active inquiry into whether or not her police force is institutionally racist due to the more or less non-existent investigation into the disappareance of Richard Okorogheye – who actually was found dead two weeks after he went missing.

It’s absolutely astonishing that she’s even in a job at all. A report by an independent panel set up in 2013 into the unsolved murder of Daniel Morgan accused the force of institutional corruption, and found that the then-Assistant Commissioner Dame Cressida had initially refused to grant access to a police internal data system.

In 2005, she headed the operation that led to the fatal shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes - A subsequent trial found the Met Police guilty of endangering the public Her degree is in forestry and agriculture for goodness sake – which is interesting, because it often looks like she can’t see the woods for the trees.

She revealed on BBC Radio 4 that she can’t even smell cannabis for goodness sake. Not only has she continued to rise to the top, like fettid cream, she has actually been rewarded with a two year contract extension because apparently there were no better candidates for the job. Coco the Clown would literally be less of a shambles than this inadequate woman. But I think I’ve cracked the case, something she’d know nothing about.

In 2015 Cressida Dick actually left the police to go and work at the Foreign Office, in an unspecified job shrouded in secrecy, in fact, a Freedom of Information request revealed her job title is exempt as it relates to security matters. So we’ll never know what her mysterious job was. It leads me to the conclusion that the only reason she’s still got a job is because, I reckon, she knows a lot of very damaging things about a lot of very important people.
