He’s rattled because Britain left the EU and is better for it. He’s rattled because the EU, and therefore France, needs Britain more than we need them.

Emmanuel Macron can do one. Who on earth does he think he is?

He has invited Britain to join a, quote, new "European political community."

He, without a hint of irony whatsoever, said: "This new European organisation would allow democratic European nations adhering to our core values to find a new space for political cooperation, and security."

What values are they? What political cooperation is that? What security?

The fact is he’s rattled. He’s rattled because Britain left the EU and is better for it. He’s rattled because the EU, and therefore France, needs Britain more than we need them.

Put simply, I would never be able to shake that man’s hand because I don’t think there’s enough soap in the world that could wash the blood off afterwards.

Re-joining any kind of EU community would be like walking back into a building that’s already on fire.

So let’s take his statement apart piece by piece, shall we?

Shared values - the EU doesn’t have any values. It’s the biggest gaslighting organisation in the world. An unelected commission of political no-hopers on the financial take masquerading as a democratic union? Have a day off…

Political cooperation? Didn’t we try to cooperate for years during Theresa May’s bungled Brexit negotiations? Didn’t we try to cooperate regarding illegal immigration in the Channel? He must think we’re thick. He must think we all have amnesia. The man needs to give his head a wobble.

His country, and indeed the entire European Union, wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for us. He should ask his wife to remind him, she probably remembers both wars. And, again, I certainly haven’t forgotten how they treated us with utter disdain for leaving the EU. They said they didn’t want us, they treated us like dirt. Well, they made their bed and they can lie in it.

His third point: security. Again, they need us, not the other way around. When the Brussels terror attack happened; they got in touch with our intelligence services to ask what had happened, and we told them. We’ve sent loads of weapons to Ukraine and, frankly, taken the lead on preventing a Russian invasion of Europe. Germany sent a few thousand helmets, what has France done? Italy? Spain? Greece? Luxembourg? Belgium?

The absolute fact of the matter is that there have been two major crises in Europe in recent years: Covid and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. And both times, Britain has done significantly better, on its own, than all of the EU nations combined.

If Macron wants us back, he can beg for it, and we’d still say no.
