Dan Wootton gives his take on the day's top stories.

Insulate Britain

Today the fightback against the terrorists of the Insulate Britain movement begun – and it was a beautiful thing to see honest and hardworking Brits start to take back control against such destructive lunatics.

As you’ve probably heard the extremists blocked key routes across London between 8am and midday. And the human cost of their illegal activity – and note I refuse to call what they’re doing protest when it’s actually criminal behaviour – was clear for all to see.

But at a similar moment, across the other side of the capital, some Brits, including paramedics, correctly decided enough was enough and did all they could to do what the police should be doing: Forcefully clearing the mob from the road.

I’ve received some pushback for describing Insulate Britain as terrorists, but I do not shy away from such a description. The 2000 Terrorism Act states: “Terrorism means the use or threat of action where … the use or threat is designed to influence the government… [and] the use or threat is made for the purpose of advancing a political… or ideological cause.

“Action falls within this subsection if it … involves serious damage to property… endangers a person’s life… creates a serious risk to the health or safety of the public or a section of the public, or is designed seriously to interfere with or seriously to disrupt an electronic system.”

Every action taken by Insulate Britain meets that definition. It is threatening the government with further action unless it immediately gives in to their ideological demand. It wilfully and criminally attacks property. And it’s risking health and safety by blocking roads, causing car accidents and stopping folk getting to hospital.

Let’s not forget this group is completely hypocritical, as I exposed one of its ringleaders Liam Norton on this show for not even bothering to insulate his own home.

This is the eleventh day of action from this mob of eco-terrorists. Boris Johnson, Priti Patel and Grant Schapps have all promised tough action. So why the hell is this still being allowed to happen day after day?

Unvaccinated

I’m becoming increasingly concerned about the divisive and ugly language being used in witch hunts against individuals who have chosen not to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

We saw it with the three Strictly Come Dancing pros who have thus far refused a jab. And now attention is turning towards five England national footballers who are believed to be refusing the injection – despite it being a prerequisite for playing in the World Cup next year.

In the spotlight today is John Stones whose partner Olivia Naylor responded positively to a quote from Orlando Magic basketball ace Jonathan Isaacs to her 45,000 Instagram followers. He had said:“I understand the vaccine would help if you catch Covid and you’ll be able to have less symptoms from contracting it. But with me having Covid in the past and having antibodies, with my current age group and my fitness level, it’s not necessarily a fear of mine taking the vaccine. It does open me up to the albeit rare chance but the possibility of having an adverse reaction to the vaccine itself.

"I don’t think being unvaccinated means infected or being vaccinated means uninfected. You can still catch Covid with or without having the vaccine.”

As you know, I am double jabbed and weighed up the risks for myself, taking into account my personal health circumstances. But the ugly coercion of healthy folk who have decided to make the decision to refuse the vaccine or wait a little bit longer is just awful and not right for a society where having control over one’s own body is meant to be sacrosanct.

There are lots of valid reasons why people might not be jabbed, ranging from natural immunity to other health conditions. But if someone is simply nervous or wavering, the last thing that’s going to convince them to change their mind is ugly and nasty hectoring and accusations they are some sort of anti-vaxxer. We need to have an open and honest conversation, without demonising those who have taken a different personal position.

Christmas is cancelled

Now Christmas celebrations are under threat from the woke wave spreading through schools. Oxford’s famous Dragon School is planning to rename Christmas and Easter terms to avoid offending non-Christians.

Emma Goldsmith – the self-styled Head in Heels – wrote to parents: “Those of you who have been at the Dragon for some time will be familiar with the academic terms being known as Christmas, Easter and Summer terms. However, we will be moving to naming them Autumn, Spring and Summer from the beginning of the Spring Term.

"This is a slight tweak but one that I hope reflects a community which wants to be inclusive at every touchpoint.”

I agree with the furious parent who responded by saying: “What is uninclusive about Christmas and Easter? Who has complained about the names of the terms? It has a Church of England ethos and the vast majority of pupils are Christian. What is the need to be “inclusive at every touchpoint”? This is wokery run riot for no reason at all?”

The reality is that not one parent or student had complained about the Christmas and Easter term titles. But Ms Goldsmith pressed ahead with the decision to strip away Christmas and Easter all the same without a second thought for tradition or the Christian faith.
